Bahrain's port achieves record growth

Bahrain's Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) has reported an 11% growth in total local container volume in 2012, Gulf Daily News has reported. Transhipment volumes have grown to record volumes by 149%, contributing significantly to the increase, said the chief executive of port operator APM Terminals Bahrain, Marco Neelsen. Local general cargo volumes moved up by 13%, compared with the same period last year. In November 2012, the port achieved record throughput volumes since it commenced operations recording 66,247 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), and continued to maintain consistent growth in volumes throughout recording more than 0.5 million TEU by end of 2012, up 40% compared with the previous year.
