Bee'ah receives delegates from U.S. Consulate General in cooperation and exchange of knowledge

Bee'ah - the Middle East's leading and award-winning fully integrated environment and waste management company - yesterday welcomed delegates from the Consulate General of the United States of America to the Waste Management Centre, to learn more about the Sharjah Emirate's achievements in sustainable waste management solutions and seek to identify green business opportunities.

Chief Executive Officer of Bee'ah, Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel and Bee'ah's senior management team met with Mr. Michael Carney, Vice Consul of the Political and Economic Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai, Ms. Caron De Mars, the Regional Environment Science Technology and Health Hub Officer for the Middle East & North Africa Region of the United States Embassy in Jordan, along with Ms. Shereen Abu Gharbieh, Commercial Specialist of the Consulate General of the United States of America in Dubai.
The two organisations discussed ways of collaborating and sharing their knowledge and experience, as well as exploring potential areas of joint efforts to put forward environmental awareness programmes, for the positive development and improvement of the environment in the region.

Commenting on the visit, His Excellency Salim Al Owais, Chairman of Bee'ah said: "The United States have experience in addressing environmental issues for many years. We are proud to show the representatives of the U.S. Consulate General the achievements of Bee'ah and are keen to look into the possible collaboration opportunities and exchange of know-how, on our path to reach 100% waste diversion by 2015 for the Emirate of Sharjah."

Mr. Khaled Al Huraimel said: "We are pleased to welcome the representatives of the Consulate General of the U.S. to our Waste Management Centre, and present the state-of-the-art technologies adopted by Bee'ah for the first time in the Middle East, as well as the substantial progress that Bee'ah is making towards its vision to developing clean, efficient waste management and environmental technologies."

The visit offered the United States Consulate General the chance to view Bee'ah's transformation and see the sustainable development programmes embraced by the company, such as the recovery of recyclables of municipal waste, the recycling of tyres as well as construction and demolition waste, the engineered landfill site and the compost plant amongst others.

"It is quite outstanding to see the advancement of the UAE, and Sharjah in particular, to bringing the various waste management solutions to the region today. We are prepared to share our expertise with organisations, such as Bee'ah, on their journey to achieving their zero-waste target by 2015," said Mr. Michael Carney during the visit.

Last year, Bee'ah was awarded the prestigious Facilities Management Award for 'Best Waste Management Company of the Year' in the Middle East; for its achievements in environmental protection and advanced waste management infrastructure put into place since 2007. The company has also won the CSR Arabia Award, in the same year, for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts through the launch of its educational and community commitment initiatives throughout 2010 and 2011 which empowered the public to practice environmentally sustainable lifestyles within their society.

Bee'ah's Waste Management Centre (WMC) represents an entirely holistic approach to managing waste and includes a number of industrial, commercial and residential waste diversion operations and facilities. The WMC houses the Material Recovery Facility, the Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Facility, the Tyre Recycling Facility, the compost plant, and other recycling facilities.
