Beirut airport passenger traffic up 5%

The Lebanese Directorate of Civil Aviation has announced the number of passengers using Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport rose 5% in 2012, despite a sharp decline in transit flights, The Daily Star has reported. The number of passengers using the airport climbed to just under 6 million, compared with 5.654 million in 2011, said the directorate. Total flights dropped 11.58% in 2012, it said, adding that the highest decline had been in transit flights, which fell by 36%.
