As part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility program, Bank Sohar has for the second year running, extended its full support to the Al Amal Association. The non-governmental organization, which is proactively engaged in uplifting people with intellectual disabilities in the Sultanate, will soon be organising a Special Olympics sporting event in the Sharqiya region.
A cheque, in support of the event, was handed over by Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM of Human Resources and Corporate Support at Bank Sohar, to Mr. Saleh Khamis Al Aghbari, National Director of Special Olympic & Board Member Al Amal Association & in the presence of Mr. Mazin Mahmood Al Raisi, AGM & Head Marketing & Publicity – Bank Sohar & Mr. Haitham M. J. Al Lawati, Board Member of the Al Amal Association, at the Bank’s premises.
“It is our strong belief that the people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper guidance and encouragement, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports” commented Ms. Munira Macki.
“For individuals with intellectual disabilities, organizations like the Al Amal Association have long been their advocates. They have provided meaningful opportunities of empowerment through sports, travel and socialization. As a result of their efforts, today’s mentally and physically challenged Omanis have an opportunity to reach and exceed their potential for greatness.”
Bank Sohar embraces values that put people first. Its eagerness to support the Al Amal Association stems from its commitment towards helping citizens of all abilities are valued, productive and successful members of the community. In fact, this donation is only the most recent in Bank Sohar’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility program and its support of numerous non-profit organisations.
This contribution to the Al Amal Association in particular is aimed at supporting the upcoming regional Special Olympics to be held in Sharqiya. The event is aimed at encouraging and supporting both children and adults that are mentally challenged through Olympic sport related activities.
Mr. Haitham M. J. Al Lawati, Board Member of the Al Amal Association said, “Our organisation aims to enhance our members’ quality of life. As such, we do not measure the success of these games based on individual successes and medal counts but rather through the shared goal of helping them progress beyond their boundaries. Thanks to Bank Sohar’s ongoing support these athletes are not limited by their mental or physical disabilities, but now have the support they require to go beyond their limits.”
Since its establishment in 2010, the Association has been training personnel to help develop skills of intellectually disabled people and has been engaging their families in programmes, activities and events designed to support and help them. The association has also been facilitating the active participation of people with intellectual disabilities in various events organized by regional and international organizations and associations in addition to developing various vocational rehabilitation programs to enhance their social and economic standing in the society.
In recognition towards its initiatives and contribution for the well being of the community , Bank Sohar has received several prestigious foreign, regional and local awards for their contribution to the community including the ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility Bank Oman 2013′ award by renowned UK based Global Banking & Finance Review. Furthermore, the Bank also boasts having been awarded the ‘Golden Excellence Award for Corporate Social Responsibility’ for the second year in a row by Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility in Dubai – in addition to numerous other achievements, in acknowledgement of its commitment to meet the customers banking needs and exceed their expectations through raising the industry benchmark of service excellence.
