With a shared and aligned vision to create a bigger mobile industry for the region, the partnership offers new opportunities for the regional developers’ community to come together, and to establish links with their peers outside the region.
It also aims to develop relevant and localized mobile innovations in several areas, such as healthcare, education, banking and other vertical industries. Furthermore, the collaboration will also attract new talent, businesses, skills, and technologies into Qatar, positioning the country at the forefront of mobile innovation.
Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Nasser Marafih, CEO The Qtel Group, said:
“A key strategy of our 2020 vision is to grow the mobile market in the region and help drive demand by bringing more exciting mobile services to our customers. This initiative will give the Qtel Group first hand access to market and customer insights gained from regional testing of new applications. It is our goal to translate these insights into new services that will meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.”
“New services that involve real-time mobile localization are now being introduced in other regions, and we believe that The Qtel Group and QSTP can provide an excellent, innovative environment to try out ideas in this and many other areas,” added Dr. Marafih.
Dr. Tidu, Science and Technology Advisor, Chairman Qatar Science & Technology Park said in response, “The creation of new technology is at the heart of QSTP’s vision. Working with The Qtel Group will be a step towards entering a new research marked in mobile innovation in Qatar and the region. Enhancing the mobile experience is important for the creation of civil society, transcending its meaning from the traditional idea to one which embraces the development of new technologies. This collaboration not only fits with Qtel’s 2020 vision, but also aligns with Qatar’s 2030 vision which focuses on the development of society.”
The Qtel and QSTP collaboration looks set to boost the industry in the region by promoting the development of new mobile applications to drive consumer uptake of more advanced mobile services and local mobile content in the future.
