Reinforcing its commitment to the community, Centro Sharjah by Rotana has taken its Corporate Social Responsibilities to an international level. With the continuous effort of the hotel to increase transparency across Rotana’s Sustainability platform, Harrison’s Fund will be added as part of the hotel’s CSR activities throughout 2014.
Harrison’s Fund is a named after to the son of Alex and Donna Smith, named Harrison. The boy was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). His muscles are deteriorating at an alarming rate. By the time he’s a teenager Harrison will lose the ability to walk and eventually lose all muscle function in his body. Latest global research indicates that currently no cure on this disease and approximately 1 in every 2,400 boys worldwide are born with DMD; they die, on average age of about 16 years old.
Centro Sharjah recently held an event, Zumba-Dance for a Cause, the first CSR activity of the hotel to support Harrison’s Fund. The main objective of the event is to increase the global awareness on DMD and help to find a cure.
Mr. Michael Kasch (Acting GM-Centro Sharjah) said: this initiative not only sets out to help Harrison but to educate the community about DMD, the causes, symptoms, treatment, etc… Latest global research indicates that currently no cure on this disease and approximately 1 in every 2,400 boys worldwide are born with DMD; they die, on average age of about 16 years old.”
“With every AED 50 donation of participants they received a t-shirt with the campaign details, Zumba session on 21st of February and Yoga on the 28th of February, plus an energy and healthy drink, fun activity at the recreation, etc….” Michael added.
All proceeds that will be collected from all the participants will be donated to Harrison’s Fund as beneficiary through Just Giving.
The event was supported by Giordano, Fitness First, E2E, Barakat and The Social Booth.
