Iraq awards South Korean consortium $6bn refinery deal

Iraq’s State Company for Oil Projects (SCOP) has awarded a consortium of four major South Korean construction companies a $6.04bn deal to build an oil refinery in Iraq, AFP has reported. Under the deal, Hyundai Construction, Hyundai Engineering, GS Construction and SK Construction are to build the plant capable each day of refining 140 000 barrels of crude oil in Karbala. The construction is scheduled to be completed within 54 months, Hyundai Construction and GS said in a regulatory filing without providing a start date.
