In conjunction with the World Diabetes Day, QPM – one of the region’s premier project management company and the first Qatari firm in the field – held an ‘Action on Diabetes’ screening and awareness campaign in the workplace for its employees and Barwa employees last week.
Action on Diabetes is a partnership between the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Diabetes Association, Maersk Oil and world leader in diabetes care Novo Nordisk. The aim of this project, which is in line with Qatar’s 2030 National Vision, is raising awareness of diabetes, helping those at risk avoid it, and supporting people already living with diabetes manage their health better.
The objectives of the campaign were to promote diabetes risk awareness among its workforce, the importance of regular health checks, and healthy lifestyle modifications. Accordingly, the company also stands to benefit from such campaign as it would enable the organization to have an aggregated insight to current employees’ health status, improve the workforce efficiency by targeting one or more specific health challenges and provide an ongoing health monitoring for the benefit of its employees.
As such, the company would also be able to play an active role in improving employees’ health and satisfaction, reduce absenteeism and boost productivity.
“Today’s fast-paced lifestyle and society has increased our vulnerability to illnesses such as diabetes,” said Mr Mohamed Jassim Al-Othman, Acting CEO of QPM. “However, with the help of advanced medical technologies that goes along with proper knowledge and awareness about the disease, such vulnerability can be reduced and its outbreak can be prevented.
“It is for these specific reasons that QPM has embarked on this diabetes screening and awareness campaign in order to assist our valued employees and promote a healthy lifestyle,” he added. “People are undoubtedly our most valuable asset and there is so much we can do not just in ensuring the health and wellbeing of our staff, but also of a healthy and vibrant society.”
Before conducting the tests, the employees have answered a diabetes risk questionnaire to help identify any lifestyle associated risk factors. Among the tests conducted as part of the campaign involved, body mass index (BMI) as well as a random blood glucose (RBG) test. blood pressure, cholesterol and lipid profile were also conducted.
Employees at higher risk of developing diabetes were given professional counseling by QDA medical staff and if necessary referred to further medical examination.
