Bonds, sukuk issuances down 18.7% in GCC

Kuwait Financial Centre (Markaz) has said the aggregate primary issuance of bonds and sukuk in the GCC totalled $37.6bn in the first six months of 2012, an 18.7% decline from the total amount raised a year earlier, Saudi Gazette has reported. June dominated the issuance with a frequency of 32, however, May witnessed the highest value as $7.3bn was issued, representing 19.6% of the total amount issued, through 28 issuances, the report said. In the GCC bonds market, composed of sovereign and corporate bonds and sukuk issuances denominated in local and foreign currencies, a total of $23.7bn was raised by Sovereign and Corporate bond and sukuk issuances, compared with $15.4bn in the same period a year ago.
