Burjeel Hospital hosts 'Tomorrow is Already Today' international conference on minimally invasive surgery and NOTES

Committed to enhancing overall patient well-being, Burjeel Hospital, in collaboration with the Scientific Committee, will conduct the first international conference on minimally invasive surgery and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES).

The two-day conference is being held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al-Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

Titled 'Tomorrow is Already Today', the conference will be held 24-25 May, 2013 at Jumeirah Etihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. The event will be presided over by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Managing Director of Burjeel Hospital and chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Tahar Benhidjeb, Chairman of Department of Surgery at the hospital.

In light of the vast technological changes in the practice of modern surgery today, the conference seeks to highlight the innovations and medical breakthroughs in the field of minimally invasive surgery and NOTES. Global pioneers and experts from USA, Germany, Japan, Italy, Belgium, France, Switzerland, India and UAE will convene for the two-day event to discuss and share new techniques and know-how in the field, review current trends and explore potential advancements.

Commenting on the conference, Dr. Vayalil said, "At Burjeel, we recognize the significance of technological advancements such as minimally invasive techniques and instruments for providing better surgical options, scarless treatments and easier recovery to patients. In line with our commitment to outstanding health care, we are extremely delighted to host a forum that brings national, regional and international experts to explore futuristic technologies in such important areas of medicine."

Medical practitioners attending the event will be able to benefit from hands-on workshops on minimally-invasive techniques. Through interactive sessions and lively debates, the event will focus on various subjects and new techniques including trans-oral approach to thyroid and esophagus, trans-gastric approach to gallbladder and appendix, trans-vaginal approach to gallbladder, appendix and colon, trans-anal approach, women's perception of NOTES, new technologies for NOTES, and single access/site surgery.

A medical exhibition will be co-located alongside the conference to showcase emerging products and service trends, healthcare equipment and technologies in the field of minimally invasive surgeries and NOTES. The exhibition provides an ideal platform for international companies to exhibit and market the latest medical devices.
