- PRESS RELEASE
Cabsat 2013, the digital media event in the region, and third largest on the global calendar, is poised to drive the debate on digital television with an extensive and carefully tailored programme of conference sessions as well as its comprehensive exhibition. The show will take place from 12 - 14 March at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
This, together with political and social change and the rapid growth of online services and social media, indicates that there will be huge potential for growth at every stage of the industry from creative production to satellite delivery.
Cabsat Academy brings together the two sides of the show into one expanded and multi-stream knowledge exchange platform and features a mixture of free-to-attend sessions in centrally-located networking areas.
The dedicated Broadcast and GVF organised Satellite Conference streams: Cabsat Broadcast Conference and the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) Menasat @ Cabsat Summit, are complemented by special workshops, vendor presentations and interactive tutorials.
The Broadcast Conference touches on the key issues for the industry, including a session led by SES, a world-leading satellite operator, on providing the satellite platforms to cater to the high demand of digital television in Africa.
Vision247 will be presenting 'New ways to monetise content: What will the future of TV look like and why is [Over the Top] OTT a game changer' session as part of the Broadcast Conference.
Luke Kennedy, Director, Vision TV Networks, Vision247, said, "Cabsat is the place to understand the implications of the rapid development in the industry and regulatory landscape across the region for the delivery of video content. The latest HD TVs and set top boxes offer internet connection as standard, and the explosion of connected mobile devices are opening up tremendous opportunities for OTT IP delivery which offers a more cost effective way to deliver greater interactivity and quality of service to viewers."
Newtec, a global provider of leading edge satellite communication products, will present a session entitled 'Gearing up for Qatar World Cup 2022: What did broadcasters learn from London 2012', to establish what will be needed to prepare networks to broadcast upcoming sport content, like the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, efficiently and reliably to make it a global television landmark.
"Today, the continued drive for more content, multi-service networks, and user expectations for higher quality content (3DTV, HD and UHDTV), especially for sports content, really challenges the bandwidth limitations on satellite. Therefore the trend to more advanced and intelligent networks can be seen in the industry," said Thomas Van den Driessche, Director of Vertical Markets at Newtec.
The GVF Menasat @ Cabsat Summit is presented by Global VSAT Forum (GVF) in cooperation with DWTC, and is regarded as one of the most influential forums for the discussion of hot topics in the satellite industry. The 2013 programme is divided into two distinct debates.
The first day (13 March) will discuss the High-Capacity Satellite. The new generation of satellites is providing unprecedented connectivity, and now is the time to debate not just the technology required on the ground, but also the new market opportunities which it ushers in. The second day of the Summit is organised in conjunction with the satellite Interference Reduction Group (IRG), and tackles the necessity to provide stable and reliable service.
"The Middle East and North Africa region is a thriving hub for the digital media and satellite sector where advancements in innovation, significant trade and global market reach are easily facilitated," said Trixee Loh, Senior Vice President, DWTC, the organiser of Cabsat. "The event is a highly anticipated platform where executives, engineers and creative talents from around the region, and beyond, can come together to share their experiences and to learn from best practices around the world. The in-depth conference programme and exhibition provide an ideal stage for knowledge sharing among industry professionals and thought leaders."
Cabsat 2013 will run from 12 - 14 March at the DWTC, in halls 1 - 8. Visitor registration is now open. The exhibition is strictly for trade and business only, and visitors under the age of 18 will not be permitted entry.
