  • PRESS RELEASE

Canon Middle East, a specialist in imaging solutions, participated in Earth Hour, a global climate awareness campaign that took place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 23rd, under the auspices of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Participating for several years, Canon Middle East turned off all non-essential lights at its offices located in Dubai Internet City, during this hour.

With this initiative the company aims to highlight and raise awareness on the need to take concrete action to diminish the effects of climate change and highlight the importance of responsible energy consumption.

In line with this initiative and in collaboration with Emirates Wildlife Society-World Wide Fund, Canon Middle East bought and distributed Earth Hour kits to all its employees in order to encourage the protection of the planet and ensure human well-being, thus reassuring sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

Moreover, Canon Middle East also partnered with Emirates Environmental Group to encourage employees to join the DEWA walk at Burj Khalifa, as a sign of solidarity for Earth Hour and to make a pledge that they will take long term actions towards environmental conservation.

Canon has been integrating various environmental approaches in all areas of its corporate activity. The brand strives to continue to become more energy efficient across all its operations and develop innovative technologies that reduce the environmental footprint of their products and services. Since 2006, globally, Canon has reduced logistics Carbon emissions by 40%.

Canon supports a variety of environmental initiatives around the region. Last year, the company launched a carbon neutral toner and ink cartridges recycling program in the UAE, with an aim to reduce the carbon footprint of Canon's products and services and also launched a series of environmentally-focused activities under the theme "Power of Environment" to celebrate its 10th anniversary in the region.

Canon Middle East also participates in a number of locally driven events to support the environment including "Earth Day" and waste collection campaigns, such as "Clean Up UAE" organized by the Emirates Environmental Group.

Mai Youssef, Corporate Communications Director, Canon Middle East, said, "Our participation in Earth Hour 2013 is a small gesture as part of our on-going commitment to be a socially responsible and environmentally conscious company. Sustainability is an important focus area for us at Canon and we remain strong advocates to encourage this initiative."

"At Canon, we strive to be more energy efficient across all our operations and aim to modify our actions in a way that can reduce our environmental footprint of our products and services and help the environment for generations to come," she added.
