- PRESS RELEASE
Canon Middle East expands its Cinema EOS System with the official launch of the EOS C500 and EOS 1DC, the company's eagerly-awaited 4K cinema cameras at Cabsat 2013, the largest broadcast, digital media and satellite exhibition in the Middle East.
Canon's Cinema EOS System brings together unique expertise from the company's DSLR, video, broadcast and lens divisions - offering exceptional quality and creative freedom to professionals of all kinds.
With the new entry-level EOS C100 and the 4K EOS C500 and EOS 1DC, the system has grown to meet a range of production requirements for users of all levels. Additionally Canon's new cine zoom lenses provide excellent value and performance in EF and PL variants - offering compatibility with virtually any camera in production today.
"The region's filming industry is booming with multiple universities now offering production courses, a growing pool of young aspiring talent, and local platforms such as the regional film festivals. As such, there is huge interest in professional film making in the region which serves Canon the right opportunity to tap into," said Hendrik Verbrugghe, Marketing Director, Canon Middle East.
"At Cabsat, we are showcasing our strongest-ever professional video line-up. Each of these new products has been developed with the needs of professionals in mind, empowering our customers to be more creative than ever before. With the EOS C500, EOS 1DC and our new cinema zoom lenses, as well as the new EOS C100, we're extending the range to meet the needs of an even wider range of users - from independent users through to cinematographers," added Verbrugghe.
EOS C500 - revolutionary 4K video capture
The EOS C500 is a new digital cinema camera offering a Super 35mm, 8.85-megapixel CMOS image sensor, DIGIC DV III Image Processor and an expansive range of recording and output options specifically for 4K (4,096 x 2,160 pixels) and 2K image acquisition. Designed for motion picture and high resolution digital production industries, the EOS C500 offers two forms of 4K origination - productions can dynamically select DCI (SMPTE 2048-1:2011 standard) or the alternative television-centric Quad-HD (SMPTE 2036-1:2009 and ITU-R BT.1769 standards) source image formats using an external device. The EOS C500 features uncompressed Canon RAW output for both 4K and 2K recording.
The Canon RAW output is delivered to external recording systems via built-in dual 3G-SDI ports. Dual uncompressed HD-SDI out ports supports external live monitoring. HD content can be written to dual onboard CF cards simultaneously to provide proxy video for offline NLE systems. The camera's uncompressed 4K output also unleashes the full potential of Canon's expanding range of 4K-resolution EF Cinema Lenses, while an EF mount with Cinema Lock makes it easier for operators to switch lenses during shooting.
As well as uncompressed 4K footage, the EOS C500 supports 12-bit or 10-bit RGB 4:4:4 output signals for 2K (2048 x 1080 pixels) or Full HD off-board recording - delivering rich colour and high compatibility with image processes such as chroma key positioning. The camera also supports frame rates up to 120p in both 4K and 2K modes, providing enhanced creative flexibility for high-speed (slow motion) video capture. The inclusion of Canon Log Gamma delivers the high quality video and wide exposure latitude demanded by professional cinematographers.
EOS C100 - Professional quality and flexibility for single shooters
The EOS C100 features the same modular concept made popular by the EOS C300. Engineered to provide mobility and durability, it features a robust build and lightweight construction ideal for use in a number of situations. Its magnesium alloy frame provides strength and rigidity while keeping weight to a minimum, allowing users to enjoy both versatility and comfort - even during all-day use.
A large, high quality 8.8cm (3.5") Vari-angle LCD is situated on the rear of the camera body, which can be manoeuvred to offer easy access to a range of function buttons situated behind the display. An adjustable handgrip also offers DSLR-like ergonomics during handheld shooting, and can be removed altogether for shooting in tight spaces or as part of a multi-camera rig.
New Compact Zoom lenses - flexibility, performance and value
The arrival of the new EF Cinema Lenses expands the Cinema EOS System further, with each designed to offer premium performance, mobility and competitive pricing. A CN-E15.5-47mm T2.8 L S wide-angle cinema zoom lens launches alongside a new CN-E30-105mm T2.8 L S telephoto cinema zoom lens, with both available in EF and PL-mount variants. All new lenses offer sufficient resolution for 4K production, making them ideal for use with Canon's EOS C500 and EOS-1D C cinema cameras - both of which support 4K video capture.
Cabsat visitors can check out the entire EOS Cinema line-up at Hall 6 - Stand C6-20 at the World Trade Centre from 12-14 March 2013.
