Comex 2012 successfully launched

The unrivalled IT, telecom and technology show Comex 2012 commenced today, 30th April, 2012 and will continue till 4th May 2012. The expo was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

The event is held under the patronage of e.oman and organised by OITE Trade Fairs. The 5 day exhibition under the theme Towards ICT Innovation will see business organisations, government bodies and individuals gather under one roof to meet, experience, embrace and adopt the latest ICT related products, services, innovations and solutions, in keeping with His Majesty's emphasis to transform the country into a knowledge society and bridge the digital divide. Around 130 companies will showcase 225 brands, through 3 main pavilions namely Government eServices, Comex Business, and Comex Shopper.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of Comex 2012, H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, stated, "The exhibition is a great chance to for both governmental and private establishments to showcase the latest in ICT from around the world. There were a lot of governmental establishments that displayed new things, which showed a noticeable progress in government services, and the digital community overall. Also, the GCC and international participation in this year's event is a good addition to the exhibition."

"We also saw the participation of e.oman projects and initiatives and we wish them success. Also, the exhibition offers a chance for the companies to communicate with the government institutions in order to offer the latest in this section. This will in turn help the government to better its e-services," Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Salem Al Futaisi continued.

Highlighting the latest plans, projects and solutions by the government, in its aim to digitalise the public and private sectors, the Government eServices pavilion will bring together key government bodies and citizens to highlight the importance and the growing need for ICT. It will also touch upon the plans and role of the government in fostering the same, through a series of workshops which will take place from 30th April-4th May 2012.

Comex Business will highlight the latest tech savvy products, services and solutions that organisations can adopt in order to make their businesses more efficient and competitive. This section enables business enterprises to showcase the latest in ICT technology namely 4G technologies, Cloud Computing solutions, Social Commerce tools and much more and will put the spotlight on those flexible communication and collaboration tools that have changed the business environment today.

Comex Shopper will feature the latest IT gadgets, products and consumer electronics that allow the ordinary customer to adopt the latest innovations from multimedia content streaming on 4th generation Android and iOS based smart phones and tablets to stylish flat ultra-books packed with innovative HD-capable and multi-touch technology, thus keeping the customer in tune with changing trends related to the field of technology.

Comex Conference 2012 will be held alongside the exhibition on 1st & 2nd May, 2012 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Seeb from 8:00 am onwards on both days. Organised by OITE Conferences and the Information Technology Authority (ITA) in cooperation with the Oman IT Society, the Conference will see a host of expert speakers from related fields convening to discuss various issues related to the field of ICT through three main sessions namely Developing National Human Resource through latest technologies, Trends & Best practices, Advancing the skills and training development using ICT, Technology and infrastructure for the growth of SME's under the broader theme Enhancing Oman's Human Capital through the Optimum Use of ICT.
