Construction of Doha Festival City achieves impeccable health safety and environmental record with 1 million safe man-hours

Since its groundbreaking in October 2011, the Phase 1 Main Contractor has demonstrated a thoroughly professional attitude, abiding by all Qatar health, safety and environmental regulations and is consistently striving to achieve continual improvement, particularly in relation to initiatives and proposals raised by the Project Manager, Mace International and the Architect of Record, Arab Engineering Bureau.

Mace International, the Project Manager, was recognised for its commitment towards maintaining and implementing the highest standards for corporate health and safety and was recently presented with the HSE Initiative Award at the annual Construction Week Qatar Awards.

Kareem Shamma, CEO, Bawabat Al-Shamal Real Estate Company 'BASREC', the owner and developer of Doha Festival City said, "The standard of safety and safe working environment achieved during the construction execution on this project is a marker of the quality we strive to achieve and deliver to our consumers. Doha Festival City will be home to IKEA's flagship store, which is due to open early in 2013 and will be the first complete component of the wide-ranging retail offering.

The construction project will culminate in the delivery of the iconic mega complex that is expected to host more than 500 international and local retail, entertainment and dining outlets.

Conveniently located just north of central Doha on Al Shamal Road, one of the arterial routes connecting the capital city to Bahrain via the proposed 'Friendship' causeway, Doha Festival City is on schedule to be completed by 2015.
