D3O markets a unique patented technology, which is used to produce a shock absorbing material, and has recently entered into a series of new development programmes with leading defence suppliers across the world to develop impact protection solutions for integrated Soldier Systems and armoured vehicles.

D3O is a type of smart material that is a composite of a dilatant fluid and polymers, used to create a soft and flexible material with high shock absorbing properties. In standard conditions, the molecules flow freely allowing the material to remain soft and flexible, but on impact, they lock together to absorb impact energy and reduce the force transmitted. The molecules instantly return to their flexible state so it never 'goes hard'. It is strain-rate sensitive, which means the stronger the impact, the more the molecules react, and better the protection.

As an ingredient brand, D3O offers a wide range of stock components including limb protectors, back protectors and sheet material available in different grades and thicknesses. D3O has extensive experience working with leading defence suppliers worldwide on protective clothing solutions including brands such as Drifire, Xion, Renegade, London Bridge Trading and Patagonia.
