Delhi Private School to launch Anti-Obesity Campaign at third annual Gulf Super Sixes

Delhi Private School (DPS), Dubai, known for providing both an exceptional education, and an outstanding sports programme, announced it will launch an Anti-Obesity Campaign on 14 December 2012 during the final day of the illustrious Gulf Super Sixes tournament.

According to a nationwide survey conducted last year by the Ministry of Health (MoH) amongst Emirati and expatriate school children, 15.5% are obese, 39.2% are overweight and an alarming 21% consume fast food three times a day.

Arshad Zaheer, CEO of Crayons Communications, said, "We are pleased to have a prestigious school such as DPS Dubai use the platform provided by the Gulf Super Sixes to launch their Anti-Obesity Campaign. One of the key factors of contributing to this disease is lack of physical activity. We hope that watching our budding corporate cricket stars and international cricketing legends play and compete, will inspire children to be more active and gradually build up to living significantly healthy and enthusiastic lives."

In a recent study published by BMC Public Health Journal ranked the UAE as the fifth fattest nation in the world.

Furthermore, a senior doctor at the MoH stated, "More people are dying of non-communicable diseases like heart diseases. He also stated children are less physically active today leading to a large section of the population to be obese by the year 2015."

DPS recognises that nurturing an interest in cricket amongst the children promotes discipline, leadership, fair play, sportsmanship, as well as healthy living, and has chosen this occasion to show their love for their service for community by energetically walking the talk.

DPS will be hosting an in-school cricket tournament on 13 December 2012, where a few legends that are participating at this year's Gulf Super Sixes will be in attendance as chief guests. The legends will have a few words with the future rising stars of this school on training, dedication, diet, and lifestyle, to help them become the best athletes they can potentially be.

Rachna Prakash, Headmistress, DPS Dubai, said, "The subcontinent's love for cricket is reflected in the students and we hope that such interactions with the masters of cricket will inspire another Sachin Tendulkar amongst them."

Organised by Crayons Communications in association with Gulf Oil and Landmark Group, entry for the UAE's largest corporate cricket league is held under the auspices of the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Cricket Council.

Held on 13 December 2012, the qualifying Super Sixteen matches will take place at the ICC GCA grounds at Dubai Sports City and the finals will be held at the spectacular Dubai International Stadium on 14 December 2012 from 2:00pm to 11:00pm.

Endorsed by Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, the 2012 Gulf Super Sixes is now featured on the Dubai Calendar of events. The tournament is also supported Alokozay International, Klear Water, Almarai, and Hot N Spicy Restaurant.

Partners of the third annual corporate cricket tournament include: Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Radio Mirchi, and Sports 360, for media; CMS Printing & Digital World for production; GMC Hospital for medical; and The Public Relations Company for publicity.
