  • PRESS RELEASE

The Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi announced the completion of major traffic improvements around Al Mushrif Mall in Al Zafarana area. This comes as part of a wider strategy to further develop transport infrastructure across the Emirate.

The Al Mushrif Mall project designed to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, in order to accommodate traffic density in Zafarana and around Al Mushrif Mall, in addition to increasing the absorptive capacity of traffic in the area and surrounding roads.

The project included developing three new intersections with traffic lights. The first intersection is located between Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street (known as Airport Road) and Street No. 25 (the Street located East of Al Mushrif Mall). In addition to the creation of new two lanes that allow motorists to make U-turns into Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street in both directions. The second intersection is at the junction of Street No. 25 with 4th street (know as Al Muroor Road).

The third new intersection is at the junction of Street No. 4 (the internal street parallel to Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street) with the street adjacent to Al Mushrif Mall from the north.

These initiatives were designed to regulate traffic in the residential area adjacent to the recently opened commercial center, while improvements to the internal street No. 4 included widening the road from one lane in each direction to a dual carriageway. The project also included establishment of 148 additional parking spaces west of Al Mushrif Mall to serve the commercial center and Al Zafarana area.

Zebra crossings at all intersections were added in order to increase traffic safety for pedestrians and motorists in the area.

The project commenced in the second quarter of 2011 and the intersections were opened recently.
