- PRESS RELEASE
In response to the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, under the theme Union Tree on the occasion of the 41st UAE National Day, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has planted a Union Tree at DEWA's headquarters to demonstrate its commitment to preserving the environment and celebrate National Day.
The initiative encourages everyone to grow a Union Tree at home and in different public places, including schools, hospitals, malls and workplaces, to promote awareness of preserving the environment and celebrating the prosperity and development of the UAE.
"In response to the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA has grown a tree heralding the launch of the 41st National Day celebrations, embodying the spirit of the union, demonstrating the strong Emirati national identity, and instilling a culture of loyalty and belonging to the UAE to its employees," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
"Our celebration of the UAE's 41st National Day reflects and emphasizes the loyalty to our nation of all Emiratis to promote the love of our beloved country. The Union Tree is derived from the vision of Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who had both launched a campaign to grow trees in the UAE since the dawn of the union," added HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
DEWA is calling upon all its employees to respond to this initiative and to grow a Union Tree in their gardens and care for it as union as one of the blessings that the UAE, both nationals and residents, are endowed with. This symbolic deed, yet great in importance, will contribute to preserving the environment and renders it greener.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched the "Union Tree" initiative on his Twitter page. His Highness has shared photographs of the Union Tree he has grown at Union House in Dubai with some children. His Highness has also called for others to grow a Union Tree at homes, government and private organizations and care for it as we are now reaping the fruits of the union.
"We believe that the future lies in our youth. This is why their active involvement and sense of duty to their society is of great importance. We are contributing alongside DEWA to achieving these goals and building a sense of belonging amongst Dubai students, as well as raising awareness on the importance of conserving the environment," said Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of Knowledge and Human Development Authority.
"DEWA, in collaboration with Knowledge and Human Development Authority will be distributing tree seedlings to different schools and education entities around the country. The tree seedlings will be planted across schools as a way to push forward the green message of environmental conservation," said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support at DEWA.
DEWA urged its staff to respond to this initiative by growing a Union Tree in their gardens and homes as a symbol of move towards a more sustainable future for the UAE.
