DFM performance November 2012

The Dubai Financial Market General Index decreased by 0.7% to 1607.9 points at the end of November compared to 1619.61 points at the end of October.

At the sectoral level, indexes of five out of the nine sectors represented on DFM ended the month in the red, with the Services sector decreasing the most by 3.2%, followed by the Financial & Investment Services and Real Estate & Construction sectors by 3%, and 2% respectively.

The Industrial sector increased by 9%, followed by Telecommunication sector by 3.2% and the Transportation sector by 2.4%. The Consumer Staples sector index has not changed during this month.

The market capitalization increased at the end of this month by 0.3% amounting to Dhs182.7bn compared to Dhs182.2bn at the end of previous month. The value of shares traded during this month reached Dhs2.257bn, compared to Dhs3.120bn recorded during October, a decrease by 27.7%. The number of shares traded decreased by 32.7% to reach 1.955 billion shares during this month compared to 2.905 billion shares were traded during October. The number of transactions executed during November down by 21.2% to reach 30.4 thousands compared to 38.5 thousand deals carried out during the previous month.

As for the sectors' contribution to trading volumes, the Real Estate and Construction sector ranked first in terms of the traded value, to reach Dhs1.062bn, or 47.1% of the total traded value in the market. The Banking sector ranked second at Dhs496.7m or 22%, followed by the Telecommunication sector with Dhs200m or 8.9%, the Financial & Investment Services sector with Dhs163.7m or 7.3%, the Transportation sector with Dhs156.6m or 6.9%, the Insurance sector with Dhs113.3m or 5%, and the Services sector with Dhs64.1m or 2.8%.

The value of stocks bought by foreign investors during this month reached Dhs1.095bn comprising 48.5% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached Dhs1.088bn comprising 48.2% of the total value traded. Accordingly, DFM net foreign investment in-flow reached Dhs6.9m.

On the other hand, The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this month reached Dhs583.1m comprising 25.8% of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached Dhs602.2m which constitutes 26.7% of the total value traded. Net institutional investment out-flow into DFM amounted to Dhs19m.
