Dhofar Automotive and Oman Golf Committee announce the draw results for the Chrysler Cup

Dhofar Automotive and the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) are proud to announce the team draw for the semi-finals of the inaugural Chrysler Cup held at Almouj Golf Course.

This follows the June announcement of a the Chrysler Cup - the Golf initiative form Dhofar Automotive, the exclusive distributor for Chrysler in Oman, and which is supported by the Oman Golf Committee. This tournament was conceived in order to provide a platform that involved the entire golfing community by playing various OGC rated tournaments that enabled them to qualify to play for their club in a Grand year ending tournament. Furthermore, the endeavour is to help raise the profile of golf and recognize the finest golfers in the Sultanate.

Commenting on the Chrysler Cup, General Manager of Dhofar Automotive, Mr Chris Edwards said; "Oman has rapidly become one of the premier destinations for golfers in the Middle East. Locally, there has been an upsurge in talent, interest and infrastructural growth, placing Oman firmly on the golfing map. Globally, Chrysler has a reputation for setting new levels of luxury and promoting the finer things in life, as is apparent from our superbly crafted vehicles. Chrysler is proud to be associated with prominent golf tournaments worldwide and the Chrysler Cup, here in Oman gives us an excellent platform and focused exposure for our brand."

He added, "For the Chrysler Cup, our intention is to elevate the sport in Oman, improve the level of competition amongst golfers, as well as identify the crème de la crème of golfers. These semi-finalists have been through a series of arduous matches that culminated in them qualifying to represent their club - Chrysler wishes them the best of luck and may the best team win."

With the purpose of determining the order of play for the semifinals, a draw ceremony was held at the Almouj Golf Club on Thursday 20th September, 2012. The draw was conducted by Chris Edwards, General Manager, Dhofar Automotive and Arqam Al Busaidi, General Secretary, OGC in front of the captains of the teams that qualified for the semi finals - Muscat Hills Golf Club, Ras Al Hamra Golf Club, Ghala Valley Golf Club and Almouj Golf Club. The result of the draw is that Ghala Valley Golf Club will compete against the Almouj Golf club and Muscat Hills will compete against Ras Al Hamra Golf Club. The showdown begins with a one day Semi finals on 27th September at the Almouj Golf Course and will culminate at a two day final event on 11th and 12th October at Muscat Hills.

Salim Al Harthy, OGC Executive Vice Chairman, said: "It has been our mission is to build a foundation for golf in Oman that will in turn, promote the local golfing teams and better the sport. We are delighted to have a brand like Chrysler associated with Golf in Oman as, through their involvement and other initiatives such as the Chrysler Cup, the profile, attention on and interest in the sport can only grow. As of now, we have received a very welcome response in the initial stages of the Chrysler Cup from the golfing community and know that we have a great tournament and competition ahead."

He also added, "Male and female participants compete in the Chrysler Cup during the course of the month in different categories - and the competition will conclude with several prize categories, including the leading junior, top Omani player and best club performance."

Jamie Wood - Golf Pro at Almouj Golf Club said, "The Chrysler Cup is a fantastic initiative and we are lucky to be a part of this tournament. The competitive and social nature of the game will grow through initiatives such as this and help to create an interconnected golfing culture which goes beyond individual clubs."
