Diyar Al Muharraq appoints new Managing Director and CEO

The appointment of Dr. Maher Al Shaer as the new CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq was also announced at the same time.

As the newly promoted Managing Director and Board Member, Mr. Aaref Hejres conveyed his wishes to the new CEO; "I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Maher Al Shaer to Diyar Al Muharraq, in his role as CEO. He brings to Diyar Al Muharraq a proven record as a corporate leader with an impressive background of performance. His extensive top level exposure and experience in the real estate development and shopping centre industry will be an asset to the company, and will help him drive forward our vision. My congratulations and good wishes to him in his new task."

Dr. Al Shaer takes charge from Mr. Hejres, who has been the driving force of Diyar Al Muharraq for over a decade. Under his dynamic leadership the company has grown from strength to strength, becoming a recognized name globally for its unique masterplan and vision, its uncompromising commitment to schedules and quality and strong organizational and infrastructural foundations and CSR programs, while enjoying a deep public engagement and confidence. He will continue to hold a leadership role in the Diyar Al Muharraq story, lending his experience and expertise in his new capacity of Managing Director and Board Member.

Dr. Maher Al Shaer also spoke about his appointment and the challenges he is ready to take on, "Diyar Al Muharraq is an industry icon and I am very excited about the prospect of working with a great team to take forward the company to its next stage of growth. A holder of a Doctoral degree in Real Estate Development from the Liverpool John Moores University as well as a Masters in Business Administration [MBA] from University of Hull in the UK, Dr. Maher Al Shaer has held several top level positions as a decision maker and CEO, clocking up an impressive 17 years in the industry in Bahrain.

Most recently he was CEO of Al Retaj; a Bahrain based Real Estate Development Company. Prior to that as Country Head & Vice President - Asset Management & Business Development with Majid Al Futtaim Group [MAF] - Bahrain, he oversaw the development from conception to completion of the integrated shopping mall, Bahrain City Centre, which opened in September 2008.

He is a founding Board Member and Treasurer of the Bahrain Property Development Association (BaPDA).

Dr. Maher is the past President, and remains on the Board, of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centers. He is also an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
