- PRESS RELEASE
Dnata announced that it has been appointed by FlyGeorgia to be its General Sales Agent (GSA) in the region. Established in the Georgian town of Tbilisi in August last year, the airline today launches its Dubai-Georgia service.
Georgia shares its borders with Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan and its capital Tbilisi, which straddles the steep banks of the Mtkvari River, has positioned itself for centuries as a crossroads between Europe and Asia. The young airline, which launched its first route from Tbilisi to Georgia's coastal town of Batumi on the shore of the Black sea last year, now flies from its hub in the capital to seven international destinations, including Tehran, Amsterdam, Antalya, Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh.
Georgia boasts one of the world's oldest cultures. The Georgian national songs and dances are well known and in the capital Tbilisi a trip to the Marjanishvili theatre, housed in a curvaceous Art Deco building is highly recommended. The country's architecture is reflected in its Georgian historical monuments, its fine Art Nouveau buildings and pretty, traditional balconied houses.
The local, traditional cuisine is one of the richest in the world and in Tbilisi, amid the quaint old streets, cafés and restaurants are plentiful. For those hunting for souvenirs, Rustaveli Avenue is studded with expensive boutiques and hotels. A wander around Tbilisi's flea market is essential for bargain hunters - known as Dry Bridge, it takes place every Saturday along the river banks below Rustaveli Avenue.
Georgia is also characterised by its diversity of nature, from snowy peaks to subtropical shores. The country is bordered by the Black Sea from the west side and enjoys an average summer temperature of +22 degrees Celsius. Winter temperatures average +5 degrees Celsius and there are a number of ski resorts like Svaneti which is located 1,800 metres above sea level.
With ambitious expansion plans to "connect Georgia with the world and the world with Georgia and to support the development of tourism, economic growth and popularisation of the country," the airline plans that by March this year, they will have taken delivery of two more aircraft and added four new European destinations to their network.
"FlyGeorgia's decision to appoint dnata as General Sales Agent for the GCC and India was based on the company's experience, contacts in the regions and their well-trained, knowledgeable staff who can help us tap into an untouched potential market, especially for our new Dubai service," said John Kohlsaat, Chief Executive Officer.
"Our country has something to offer everyone, whether travelling for business or leisure and FlyGeorgia's chief priority is to deliver the highest quality service and safety to our passengers to ensure their journey to our airline's home is a good experience," he continued.
dnata is already GSA to over 30 airlines in Dubai and the region and acts as the essential link between its airline partners and the trade. "With over 40 years of experience in promoting and selling airline services in a highly competitive and dynamic market, we are confident we can execute the right strategy to help FlyGeorgia establish itself in the region," said A Majid Al Mulla, Divisional Vice President for dnata's travel business.
"Providing a wealth of choice for our customers has always been one of our key aims and this partnership with FlyGeorgia will allow us to widen still further the breadth of products we offer," he continued.
