DTFF 2012 reaches out to families with an array of activities, workshops and performances

Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF), the annual cultural celebration of the Doha Film Institute (DFI), has unveiled an extensive line-up of family- and children-centered activities for its fourth edition, to be held from November 17 to 24, 2012.

Tailored especially for families and children to celebrate films, local culture and community, Family Days at DTFF will transform Katara Cultural Village into a buzz of fun filled creative activities from November 21 to 24, 2012.

DFI Family Days will host red carpet screenings of Asterix and Obelix: In Britain 3D and the closing night film Rise of the Guardians 3D along with complimentary community screenings of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial , Cinema Paradiso, The Braveheart will take the Bride and Children of Heaven at the Sony Open Air Cinema on Katara Esplanade.

Abdulaziz Al-Khater, CEO of DFI, said: "DFI Family Days at DTFF, has been specially created in line with our objective of making the festival a truly community event. The tailor made events foster an appreciation of cinema and encourage more local talent to take their first steps into the world of movie-making. We are strengthening bonds through film, and Family Days is the perfect testament to our commitment to promote intercultural dialogue for all ages."

DFI Family Days events will provide fun-filled opportunities for children and families to play, experience, and learn together. Each day will be a different experience to discover filmmaking activities, workshops and more.

During the course of DFI Family Days, an array of cheer-filled activities and entertainment events will be held across Katara, including live stage performances, workshops, play areas, face painting , street performers and stilt walkers, arts and crafts stations, kite flying, musical performances, storytelling, sports, beach games, photo opportunities, puppetry and filmmaking activities.

Fatma Al Remaihi, Head of Programmes at DFI, said "DTFF was born out of a desire to bring communities in Qatar together through film and cinema initiatives. Over the years, we have continuously worked towards curating year round programs that appeal to film lovers of all ages and enhance overall cultural appreciation. DFI Family Days at DTFF is a culmination of these efforts and we look forward to engaging families with a series of fun and enriching events."

Bringing a true celebration of community involvement in Qatar's cinematic landscape, the DFI Kids Access Program, supported by production assistants from Qatar University, Northwestern University, Doha College, and the DFI Content Team, will feature a group of enthusiastic student reporters-, who will cover aspects of the age-appropriate events during the Festival.

DFI will also host a DTFF Family Panel inviting young enthusiasts and families to explore how artists express themselves. . Through demonstrations and hands-on participation, the panel will place emphasis on the use of animation, dance, music, and art to encourage audiences to discover their creative potential.

The events and programme at the fourth Doha Tribeca Film Festival underscores Doha Film Institute's year-round mandate to provide audiences with opportunities for education and entertainment in important community spaces.
