Kalimat Publishing House, the Sharjah-based award-winning publisher of high quality Arabic children's books has planned a series of exciting activities that will keep children occupied during the long hours of fasting in Ramadan.

With readings, illustration workshops and cookery demos, the activities will allow children to delve into the world of creativity, cooking and fantasy and will appeal to all their senses.

Speaking about these activities, Tamer Said, Business Development Manager for Kalimat Publishing house, said, "The activities have been planned keeping in mind the long hours of fasting where children often find themselves with nothing to do, and could become bored. It will enable them to spend their time in fun-filled activities, which will help them learn the true spirit of Ramadan while enjoying themselves. The activities revolve around reading stories, cooking and creativity."

With the support of du, two activities were held over the weekend at Little Explorers in Playnation at the Mirdif City Centre with an illustration activity on the 10th of August followed by a cookery demo on the 11th.The illustration workshop was held by talented artist Natalie Starikova and focused on the happiness and joy one finds in helping others. Children had the chance to illustrate what Ramadan really means to them on paper plates and decorate them.

The cookery demo by Chef Majed Al Sabagh was based on the Kalimat cookbook for children 'Lathith Jiddan' ('It Is So Yummy!') written by Fanny Letournel and translated by Rania Sanyoura. The mouth-watering recipes are simple to make and include desserts and quick-fix breakfast items that are perfect for children to begin with while learning how to cook. The activity will allow children to taste and have fun, while finding out just how recipes work, as they make the dough for Ramadan biscuits and ghoraibi (butter cookies).

On the 16th of August the children were treated to a reading of the children's book Hithaa Al Eid at the Jashanmal Bookstore, Sahara Centre. Written by acclaimed author Fatima Sharafeddin, the book describes how Eid is traditionally celebrated in the middle east from the viewpoint of young Dima, and highlights the spirit of compassion and brotherhood in the community during the holy festival.
