Dubai municipality has launched a campaign aimed at reducing the number of plastic bags being used by consumers by the year's end, Gulf News has reported. The six-month "Say No to Plastic Bags" campaign will target supermarkets across the emirate, said head of Customer Services Unit of the Waste Management Department, Abdullah Al Gaffari. "Many of the supermarkets wondered whether we were imposing a ban on plastic bags, and this is not the case at all," he said. "We're looking to reduce plastic bags by 20% of the total amount used by the end of the year, and we want to reduce it by a further 15% in 2014 as well," said Al Gaffari.
