With its idea of offering a crucial line of communication between the private and public sectors, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised Talk Expo 2020 at the Raffles hotel on Monday.

The networking meeting served as an open forum for the representatives of the business councils and groups to interact with H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and Managing Director of Expo 2020 Dubai.

The meeting also shed light on the important role the private sector could play to support Dubai's bid to host Expo 2020 as well as to make the business councils and groups, operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chamber, understand the economic benefits that will follow the winning of the bid for the country.

Said H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, "I would like to note that this event is the culmination of an enormous collective effort of Dubai Chamber in reaching out to its members from the private sector and its international stakeholders to raise awareness of the UAE's bid to host World Expo 2020 and promote the economic value of engaging in the campaign.

"I take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the Chamber's pioneering role as a solid repository for the business community and for the enthusiasm and assistance in garnering their support," she added.

In his welcome address, H.E. Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, stated that it is the moral responsibility of the business community to support this national campaign which will bring business and promote growth in the country.

On its part, Dubai Chamber is utilising all its resources through its local, regional and global network of stakeholders and associates to generate support for the bid while also highlighting the competitive advantages enjoyed
by the business community in Dubai.

Buamim further stressed that Dubai Chamber during its foreign visits as well as while receiving overseas delegations makes it a point to promote the advantages of Dubai by highlighting its leading economic sectors like trade, tourism, logistics and financial sectors and its world-class infrastructural facilities. We also seek the delegations' support in winning the bid for Dubai which will bring all round economic progress to the emirate, he said.

The Director General of Dubai Chamber informed the gathering about the Chamber's efforts in mobilising support from its members, especially from the business councils and groups, which work closely with Dubai Chamber and play an important role in spreading the word in their respective countries for supporting Dubai's bid to host Expo 2020. Their contribution to the emirate's economic growth is immense, said Buamim.

Dubai now enjoys its reputation as a centre for international exhibitions, conferences and events and has the capability to host a global event like the World Expo and to make it a huge success.

This is now possible due to the emirate's state-of-the-art hotels and hotel chains which are gearing up to cater to a wider taste while also enhancing its capacity to accommodate more delegates and tourists to the Expo, added Buamim.
