- PRESS RELEASE
As part of the UAE's ongoing campaign to generate support for the country's bid to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, staff from the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment 'DEPE' this week participated in an interactive workshop facilitated by the Expo 2020 bid team.
Over 30 DEPE staff took part in the workshop, which follows similar Expo briefings with government entities such as Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police, Dubai Land Department and the Roads and Transport Authority.
"In line with our focus on promoting Dubai as a global tourism and retail destination, all of our staff are extremely keen to support the UAE's bid to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai," said HE Laila Mohd Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of the Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment.
"Working with the Expo 2020 bid team and in partnership with other government entities, we look forward to reaching out to our stakeholders here in the UAE and across the globe to bring this truly international event to Dubai, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities," she added.
As the latest in a series of briefing sessions organised for government departments across the UAE, the workshop provided participants with key insights into the country's bid to host the first Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, as well as tools with which to promote the bid among internal and external stakeholders through DEPE's many touch points.
Dubai, UAE, is competing against four other candidate cities bidding to host the 2020 World Expo, including Ayutthaya 'Thailand'; Ekaterinburg 'Russia'; Izmir 'Turkey'; and Sao Paulo 'Brazil'.
The winning city will be announced in November 2013 following a vote by the 161 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions - the international organisation responsible for overseeing the bidding, selection and organisation of World Expos.
