Dubai H1 direct foreign trade rose 11.4%

Dubai's direct non-oil foreign trade, excluding free zone trade and transhipments at customs warehouses, rose 11.4% to Dhs384.3bn during the first half of 2012, compared with Dhs345bn over the same 2011 period, Khaleej Times has reported. Imports, accounting for 62.7% of the total direct foreign trade, recorded a 12.9% growth to Dhs241.6bn in the first half compared to Dhs214.1bn over the same period last year. Exports, contributing 17.7% of Dubai's direct foreign trade, showed a growth of 51.1% to reach Dhs68bn during the first half compared to Dhs45bn over the same period last year. Re-exports, constituting 19.5% of the trade, fell by 13.1% to Dhs74.7bn during the first half, compared to Dhs85.9bn over the same period in 2011, due mainly to UN sanctions on Iran.
