Dubai International Art Centre is set to host 'Open House'

Dubai International Art Centre (DIAC) is all set to host its highly popular annual 'Open House' on January 12, 2013. The event will take place from 10am to 4pm and will be open to public absolutely free of charge.

Ayesha Chen McKeever, Chairman, DIAC, said, "It is a remarkable day of fun and art when we open our doors to public to showcase our wide range of activities and provide information about the upcoming classes during the new term which will commence on January 19, 2013. With more than 70 courses on offer, the Dubai International Art Centre provides people the perfect opportunity to develop their creative skills. The best part of the experience during the Open House is meeting people from curious art lovers including families and children to art professionals and art collectors."

On the day, a series of art demonstrations will be organised where people will be able to interact closely with the teachers / artists while at work as well as try their hand at their favourite craft.

Ayesha stressed, "Sharing the intimacy of the place where the artists work always feels very special, not only for artists but also for the visitors."

More than 20 painters, sculptors, illustrators, jewellery makers, potters and fiber artists will open their studios to the public where they can rekindle their creative spark. The following workshops have been scheduled for the day. Prior registration is necessary to attend.

•10am - 12pm: Sculpture, Mosaic, Water Colours, Pattern Drafting & Sewing and Spanish.
•12pm - 2pm: Soft Pastels, Drawing and Painting, Arabic Calligraphy Painting, 3-D Wall Art.
•2pm - 4pm: Fashion & Abstract Painting, Arts & Crafts for Children, Terracotta Jewellery, Oil Painting, Water Colours, General Drawing and Painting.

Adding an Emirati flavour will be a host of other activities such as henna painting, bedouin tent on the lawn with a camel and complimentary Arabic coffee / tea with dates served in the tent.

Ayesha said, "Our Open House has always been very popular with families and turns out to be an amazing day for children who play around with colours, crafts and camels, pose for photos and discover new things."

Another highlight will be the Teacher's Exhibition being held at Gallery 76 located in DIAC from Tuesday, January 8 to Monday, January 14, that will give visitors an opportunity to view the marvelous works that have been produced by in-house teachers.

Few centres are associated with art as the Dubai International Art Centre. Since its inception it has been one of the emirate's most respected institutions having served the arts community in Dubai since 1976 providing space to learn, practice and display a wide repertoire of arts.
