- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai International Film Festival is teaming up with The Pavilion Downtown Dubai, a non-profit contemporary art space, to offer a series of free monthly film screenings from August to audiences across the emirates.
Films include Nowhere Boy, a chronicle of John Lennon's first years and his journey to becoming a successful musician, MARLEY, the life story of music legend Bob Marley and The Festival Express, a documentary about a five-day train tour across Canada taken in 1970 by some of the world's greatest rock bands, including The Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin.
DIFF Artistic Director Masoud Amralla Al Ali commented: "Since its inception in 2004, the Dubai International Film Festival has carried the mission of bridging cultures and fostering open dialogue through cinema. The film screenings at The Pavilion are an opportunity to expand the conversation and bring insightful and thought-provoking cinema experiences to the UAE community."
The programme will incorporate a variety of genres and appeal to a wide range of audiences, from casual viewers to film aficionados with an in-depth knowledge of the art form.
The August programme has been curated with the assistance of Front Row Entertainment and the British Council. The September programme will offer audiences a taste of the world of Iranian cinema, while October's programme will have a Halloween-themed selection of films.
Screenings will take place on the last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each month, with the exception of December where the screenings will take place on December 17, 18 and 19. Entrance to the screenings will be free of charge and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The Pavilion can accommodate up to 60 people per screening.
