Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), a centre for legal studies and judicial training in Dubai and a member of the General Network for Government Communication, has announced its joint collaboration with the US Embassy in the UAE to organise the International Symposium for Justice and Law, to be held under the theme of 'US Law Week' from November 11 to 14, 2012.
The upcoming forum underlines the strong cooperation and strategic partnership between Dubai Judicial Institute and the US Embassy in the UAE, reaffirming their joint efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries and create an interactive channel to share their expertise and knowledge of best international practices. Holland & Knight LLP will be representing the Embassy at the US Law Week.
Dr. Judge Jamal Hussein Al Sumaiti, Director General, DJI, said, "The International Symposium for Justice & Law complements the country's ongoing commitment to leverage the latest developments and best international practices in legislative and judicial excellence to ultimately broaden the UAE's footprint on the legal, political and diplomatic world map. Our joint efforts to organise this world-class event with the US Embassy further testifies the growing confidence of the international community in the Institute as a primary hub for legal and judicial innovation, which reflects Dubai's leading position as a regional and global destination for judicial, developmental, cultural, economic and investment excellence."
"We cannot but laud the Dubai Judicial Institute for coordinating this highly important event at a time when both countries, the USA and the UAE, are pursuing economic development," said Mr. Robert Arbuckle, Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Embassy in the UAE. "There has never been a better time to introduce both legal systems and look into the best practices that will be discussed at the event. We believe that focusing on social media and future technology developments will be of great benefit to the industry."
Al Sumaiti added, "Our efforts at the International Symposium for Justice & Law embodies the holistic vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to develop more innovative government initiatives aimed at reinforcing Dubai's position as an international city for hosting world conferences, events and festivals. Held in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in the UAE, this event not only strives to offer the best judicial practices to serve the legal and judicial community in the UAE, but also supports our ongoing efforts to place Dubai among the leading destinations for hosting major industry events."
Al Anood Al Hamadi, Director of Symposium and Head of Training Department at Dubai Judicial Institute, explained that the event will offer an extensive overview of the legal system in the US, with a focus on its best practices in alternative sentencing and social media. It will also feature a number of case studies on subjects related to juvenile delinquency, alcohol consumption, automobile accidents and fraud, wherein explanations will be provided about how the American system deals with these crimes, particularly those related to the virtual world and social media networks.
A series of panel discussions on subjects of immense importance will also be featured at the event, including: "Indigenous Introduction: Understanding the Traditional Penal Reform System and Disputes - Juvenile Delinquency and Guerrilla Violence"; "Impact of Mental Health Courts on Criminals, Domestic Violence Court Tribunals and the Drug and Alcohol Court"; "Sentences on Automobile Accidents and Reckless Driving, Fraud and White Collar Crimes"; "Understanding the role, needs and commitments of all parties"; "Case Studies: What happens when you disregard the laws and success scale?", "Social Media - Best practices of U.S. Legal System and Legislations", "Policies and upcoming technical developments for government monitoring", and many more.
The US delegation aims to promote USA-UAE mutual understanding across the UAE through several professional academic, cultural and exchange programs. The US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the US Consulate General in Dubai are working together to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.
