Dubai Municipality meets Thai companies to intensify food safety measures

As part of its deep rooted commitment to keep Dubai a food safe global city and to practicalize its strategic vision to exercise food control measures at its very exporting places, Dubai Municipality has recently organized a program for prominent Thai food export companies.
At the inaugural speech, Mr. Khaled Mohammed Al Sharif Al Awadhi, Director of Food Control Department explained various aspects of the food control measures adopted in gulf region especially in Dubai. He also detailed about the roles and efforts of various government departments including DM food control department in this regard.
"DM is deeply committed to keep Dubai a food-safe, hazard-free global city. We will go to all possible extents to assure risk free food items be supplied in the city," he said.
"As per our policy we are now trying to reach out to the places of origin of all imported food items in Dubai," he added.
He said 2.2 percentage of total imported foods in Dubai is coming from Thailand. He also said efforts of Thailand Consulate and its cooperation with Dubai Municipality have been exemplary in this regard.
Basheer Hasan, senior expert at Food Control Department delivered a presentation in which he explained what are the specifications, conditions and other aspects to be noted with high importance, while exporting food items to Dubai. A detailed track record of imports from Thailand from 2005 and its notable characteristics with facts and figures has also been included in the presentation.
"As Dubai depends upon other countries for its 90% food consumption, this kind of control/awareness measures has high importance," he commented.
