Dubai Municipality transforms IT operations with HP

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 07 - 2013 at 13:24
  • PRESS RELEASE

HP announced that Dubai Municipality has improved the delivery of e-services to its 2.2 million citizens with an enterprise monitoring solution from HP. HP Business Service Management (BSM) software has enabled the municipality's small IT team to manage an increasingly complex IT estate and boost customer satisfaction.

Dubai Municipality plans, designs, builds and manages the United Arab Emirates' municipal infrastructure.

The organisation has always been a pioneer in e-services, many of which are made available to citizens via an interactive web portal.

To monitor and maintain the health of its IT infrastructure, operations, security, applications and administration from a single point, Dubai Municipality selected HP BSM software.

"Our Network Operating Centre is managed by a team of five," says Mr. Khalid Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi, CIO, Dubai Municipality.

"HP BSM software allows them to focus on business services rather than the IT infrastructure. Instead of siloed monitoring solutions, we now have one enterprise solution to monitor and report on all our systems, networks and applications. HP BSM software provides accurate reporting on availability and performance based on real user experience, enabling the IT team to fix issues before they affect the business," he added.

HP BSM software proactively monitors the health of every component that forms a business service for Dubai Municipality, including over 600 network devices in 125 locations, more than 400 servers in 6 data centers, 340 databases, 68 middleware applications and over 1.5 million IT assets.

A single tool now closely aligns IT resources and priorities with business needs. The automation of a significant number of routine manual procedures and service health checks has freed resources to focus on higher value-add activities, while the ability to provide real-time views into service performance has substantially boosted both the effectiveness and the credibility of Dubai Municipality's IT team.

As part of Dubai Municipality's HP BSM software suite, HP Operations Manager i (OMi) automates reporting for all of Dubai Municipality's operating systems, databases, middleware and applications, and enables failed services to be restarted automatically.

By analysing alerts from HP OMi and using forecast reports from HP Service Intelligence, administrators can take actions to fix problems before they happen and avoid incidents

Problem management and resolution times are reduced using HP Diagnostics software, which gives the IT team visibility across multiple applications, identifies problems throughout the application lifecycle, and provides actionable information to eliminate probable causes.

Dubai Municipality's operations are kept running smoothly by HP Universal Configuration Management Database software, which automates Dubai Municipality's inventory of over 1.5 million IT assets with an end-to-end service architecture.

Network health across the organization is maintained by HP Network Node Manager i which reduces the business risk of downtime and increases network service levels through event correlation and root cause analysis.

"With limited resources and continuing pressure on budgets, public sector organisations need an IT infrastructure that is easy to manage," said Tayfun Topkoc, HP Software Director, HP Middle East. "HP has helped improve the effectiveness of Dubai Municipality's IT services while reducing support costs and complexity," he added.
