- United Arab Emirates: 5 hours, 22 minutes ago
The director general of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Butti Ahmed has said the emirate's non-oil trade jumped 16% in the first quarter and said the pace is expected to be continue this year despite a plunge in trade with Iran and global economic weakness, thanks to the recovery in Dubai's property sector, Reuters has reported. Non-oil trade grew to Dhs325.5bn ($88.6bn) in the first quarter from Dhs280bn in the same period last year, the customs office said. "The main thing now is that growth in real estate starts picking up. With real estate developments there are many sectors that also start picking up," Ahmed said on the sidelines of a world customs conference in Dubai.
