Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has announced that the first tram for the new Al Sufouh line will arrive in the emirate from France on December 11. The first phase of the tram network is due to be completed, by contractor Alstom-Besix Consortium, in the last quarter of 2014. Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of the Rail Agency, said: "Al Sufouh Tramway extends 14.6km alongside Al Sufouh Road. The initial phase will be the construction of a 10.6km-long track from Dubai Marina to the tram depot near Dubai Police Academy. The tram network comprises 17 passenger stations, 11 of which are covered under Phase I. The tram, in the initial phase, is expected to lift about 3,500 passengers per hour per direction." It will link up with the metro system and the Palm Jumeirah monorail system.
