  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) was named 'Best Big Catering Company' at the inaugural Food Safety and Hygiene Awards 2012, organised by Dubai Municipality, beating off stiff competition from top five-star hotels and airlines.

The awards celebrate organisations that have consistently maintained high standards of food safety and provides a platform for the government of Dubai to recognise companies and individuals who contribute to raising the standards of catering in the UAE.

DWTC is involved in multiple levels of versatile, comprehensive and professional catering, and maintains the "Grade A" status given to its Kitchen from Dubai Municipality by practicing world-class hygiene and food safety standards, and implementing a culture of food safety and hygiene into all its operations. From state functions to weddings, sporting events, banquets, gala dinners, award ceremonies, private celebrations or outdoor catering including public events, DWTC delivers tailor-made à la carte menus and buffets to palaces, clubs, associations and private venues across the UAE. Its unparalleled expertise in high profile weddings has also earned DWTC the reputation of being the preferred choice for Emirati and royal weddings across the UAE.

DWTC has implemented various rigorous initiatives to ensure that its Hospitality division works efficiently to the highest capacity and in line with international standards. "Winning such a prestigious award is a tribute to the dedication and commitment of our team," said Mohammed Al Jumairi, Vice President - Hospitality, Dubai World Trade Centre. "Corporate responsibility and safety are not actions - they are philosophies and we have made them a fabric of our organisation."

"This award is a valued endorsement of the strides we have undertaken to ensure we operate in a manner that is both effective and beneficial to our employees, visitors and the community. I would like to thank Dubai Municipality for recognising our work and we look forward to future successes with each other."

Nominees for the awards were judged against a number of criteria including food safety culture within the organisation, management's commitment to food safety and hygiene in a healthy environment, layout of the Kitchens to support food safety, support to Dubai Municipality programmes, initiatives implemented in the organisation and specific achievements, no food complaints and corporate social responsibility initiatives. DWTC excelled in each category, making it a front-runner amongst competition.

From the iconic Sheikh Rashid Tower featured on the 100 Dirham note to the region's largest purpose built events complex, DWTC is recognised as being the catalyst for global business and event and hospitality services. In addition to its primary service offerings are a range of value-added services including advertising, engineering and technical consultation, outdoor catering inclusive of public events, wedding planning, event services, security services and an award-winning hospitality portfolio. DWTC boasts the emirate's largest non-industrial catering production infrastructure, logistically equipped to handle concurrent large scale on-site and off-site events. With 135 chefs hailing from 17 countries, and a 39,300 sq. ft. modern kitchen facility maintaining five-star health and hygiene certifications, the Hospitality team can serve as many as 15,000 guests in a day.
