Egypt cuts hotel prices by 40% to attract tourists

Egyptian tourism firm Al-Rawas Group has said hotel prices in the Red Sea area are to be reduced by 40% during the summer season, as part of a marketing campaign by the tourism ministry aimed at attracting more tourists to the country, Daily News Egypt has reported. "In the Red Sea area prices will now be as low as EGP100 per night and as high as EGP300 per night in Sharm El-Sheikh," said Mohamed Soliman, manager at Al-Rawas Group. The ministry hopes to attract 25 million tourists to Egypt by 2015. According to official data, tourism revenues dipped 38% to EGP2.1bn in 2012, compared with EGP8.8bn in the previous year.
