Egypt to launch new railway projects in 2013

Egypt's Railway Authority has announced it is to begin the development of a new electric railway system next March, extending from Alexandria to Cairo, Daily News Egypt has reported. The authority also said it would float a tender for the construction of a line extending from Bani Suyuf to Assiut beginning in April, at a cost of $600m. Both projects are to be funded by a loan from the World Bank, and are part of a 5-year plan to develop Egypt's railway system, the authority said.
