Egypt moves to solve power outages at Hurghada resorts

  • Egypt: Tuesday, January 15 - 2013 at 06:30

The Egyptian government is set to start pumping natural gas to more than 50 resorts in the Red Sea city of Hurghada after it approved a request from the Egyptian Society of Touristic Investments, Ahram has reported. Hotels in the Red Sea resort depend on diesel fuel to produce electricity through privately-owned generators. Recent diesel shortages forced hotel owners to tap into the black market to buy fuel to run the generators at very high prices, which resulted in electricity blackouts and negatively affected tourism.
