Egypt Suez Canal official expects stable revenue in 2012

The head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Memish said that revenue from the waterway will not fall this year from 2011's $5.2bn, Reuters has reported. Revenue rose to $446.6m in August, up 3% from July. The canal was among the most profitable entities in the country, providing a vital source of foreign currency, tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad, he noted.
