EMEA IT spending to grow in 2013: Gartner

  • Middle East: Wednesday, November 07 - 2012 at 04:16

Global market research firm Gartner has said IT spending in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) is set to rise 1.4% year-on-year to $1.154trn in 2013, thanks to the increasing popularity of mobile devices. Gartner estimates IT spending to fall 3.6% in EMEA compared with last year. However, after returning to growth next year, the region will continue to grow through 2016 when spending will reach $1.247trn, it said. The growth will in part come from enterprises spending more money on software for smartphones and tablets, which are the current "bright spot" of the IT industry, according to Gartner. "That segment is growing by 40-50% per year and we see that continuing going forward," said Leif-Olof Wallin, research vice president at Gartner.
