  • PRESS RELEASE

In line with Abu Dhabi's strategy to go green, the Commercial Vehicles Division of Emirates Motor Company (EMC), Mercedes-Benz authorized distributors in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and flagship company of Al Fahim Group, delivered the first Mercedes-Benz Econic truck powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to waste collection company contracted by the Center of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi (Lavajet), an international provider of environmental waste management services.

The Mercedes-Benz Econic CNG is certified in accordance to the Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicles (EEV) emission standards. It offers operators significant savings on fuel costs and also has drastically reduced emissions which already today allow to not only reach but even fall below the very strict Euro 5 emission standard effective in the European Union beginning 2014.

Over and above, the Mercedes-Benz Econic features 50% lower noise pollution, whilst simultaneously offering the high transport capacity of a truck, the maneuverability of a van and ergonomics of a low-floor vehicle.

The Centre of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi stated, "CWM is eager to endorse this environmentally responsible initiative, which will further assist us in applying sustainable and integrated waste management systems that conform to global standards and complement Abu Dhabi's Vision 2030. Now is the time for natural gas vehicles. We will continue to support Abu Dhabi's ambitious lead on fuel efficiency and drastically reduce emissions, aiming to inspire and encourage the ongoing development of such eco-friendly initiatives."

"We are delighted that EMC has given us the opportunity to try the Mercedes-Benz Econic CNG on our operations in Abu Dhabi. The attributes of the vehicle offer us many advantages as we are heavy users of our fleet," praised Eng. Alberto Germani, LAVAJET Abu Dhabi project manager.

"We will benefit from the low running costs and at the same time we will be more environmentally friendly while carrying out our business," he added.

For his part, Mr. Abdullah Al Dhaheri, General Manager ADNOC Distribution, commented, "We are delighted that Emirates Motor Company has taken up this initiative together with LavaJet and the Abu Dhabi Center for Waste Management and used ADNOC Distribution NGV fuel for the first CNG truck in the UAE. This initiative will promote the use of NGV fuel for a cleaner environment in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. ADNOC Distribution plays an important role in marketing and distributing NGV in Abu Dhabi. The company has converted several numbers of taxis and vehicles of different Government entities reaching a total number of 2675 vehicles at the end of 2012 and also provided them with NGV fuel from many of ADNOC service stations. In the same time we encourage all companies and customers to use NGV fuel."

Mr. Daniel Fitzjohn, general commercial vehicle manager, stated, "We are proud to be contributing to Abu Dhabi's cleaner future by promoting environmentally responsible transport solutions that use alternative fuels in order to reduce our impact on the environment. Lavajet is a good partner for us and hopefully this trial in their fleet will encourage other operators to join in with the country's green initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint."

In line with the dealership's core values of Substance and Foresight, Emirates Motor Company is committed to being the best in class in all that it does for and in the community. By introducing the Mercedes-Benz Econic CNG in Abu Dhabi, Emirates Motor Company and Lavajet are supporting the government's efforts into building an environmentally aware society which measures its impact on the natural environment and works towards finding solutions to avoid harming the ecosystem.
