Mr. Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais, the Minister of Culture, Youth, and Community Development and Acting Minister of Health in the UAE, and H.E. Mrs. ElkeBadde, Undersecretary of Health and Consumer Protection in Hamburg will be giving the opening remarks of the Congress.

The Emirati-German Healthcare Congress aims at bringing together doctors from Germany, the UAE and other Arab countries in order to exchange experiences, experiments and research results to explore new ways of treatment. Arab doctors who studied in Germany will also have the opportunity to take part in the congress and reconnect to the country.

With its idea originating from the city of Hamburg, the congress reflects the city's interest in the Arab region, and its keenness to share experiences and research with the specialized bodies and authorities; especially since Hamburg occupies a leading position as a global hub for industries, medical technologies, hospitals, clinics, medical centers and specialized doctors. Northern Germany in general and Hamburg in particular are well known as an international leader in the fields of medicine and healthcare due to the unique network of research institutions, medical experts, technological innovation and the infrastructure it owns. In addition to that, Northern Germany's endeavorsmeet the growing interests and strong efforts made by the Arab countries in the fields of healthcare sciences and medical technology; which paved the way for new initiatives and extended horizons of cooperation between the two parties. The "Healthcare Industry Service Centre" which was inaugurated in Dubai Business Village last year, is a living example for such cooperation. This initiative reflects the importance of the Gulf Region to the medical sector in Northern Germany; furthermore, it contributes to the expansion of the existing health relations between Northern Germany and the Arab Gulf states. This cooperation is also highlighted through the broad participation of companies from Northern Germany in the specialized exhibitions held in the region, especially the Arab Health Exhibition in Dubai.

The "Healthcare Industry Service Centre" is a governmental initiative of the Hamburg State Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection, funded by the European Social Fund. The project was realized in cooperation with Norgenta, North German Life Science Agency. The "Healthcare Industry Service Centre" has been located close to the Hamburg Representative Office in Dubai and operates under its umbrella. The overall aim of the office is to foster already consolidated business relations between the UAE and Hamburg. It also acts as initial contact for companies and institutions, wishing to set up businesses in the opposite territory.
