The ENERWASTE Summit endorsed by the ministry of Environment and Water

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, UAE Minister of Environment and Water, and In partnership with the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW), government officials, environmental managers and waste management center's directors will all meet in Abu Dhabi for the second ENERWASTE Summit to be held from 17 -20 May 2013 at the Royale Meridien Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

The two-day event is taking place where the UAE is raising awareness about the protection of environment and the use of green technologies while the Center of Waste Management signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) to build the world's largest waste-fuelled power plant. The first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates, this plant is part of an initiative to drastically reduce the amount of rubbish buried within landfills in the desert.

Conference sessions, case studies, panel discussions, technology updates and networking at this summit will provide a great opportunity for experts to gain insight into the current and future projects happening in the GCC area in the Waste to Energy industry.

Eng. Aisha al Abdooli, expert in environment affairs Sector , Chemical and Hazardous Waste
Ministry of Environment and Water said: "Waste management is gaining a bigger interest in the region due to the increasing amount of waste and the lack of policies that help manage it. Regardless of the limited success stories in the rest of the world, the amount of waste is still a worrying issue on social and governmental aspects due to its negative influence on the economy and the environment".

Abdooli added: "The government of the UAE has put in place a series of policies and strategies divided into 3 categories, reducing the production of waste, Better waste management following all sort of waste regulations, Recycling the waste with more than Dhs6bn of investments in this category".

Also, Eng. Hani Hossni, HSE Sector Director of the Center of Waste Management in the UAE will give an overview of Tariff system to reduce waste generation of factories and plants in Abu Dhabi in a presentation titled 'Understanding the second phase of the tariff system in Abu Dhabi '.

Further presentations and panel discussions will cover key topics including; developing a framework to support upcoming waste to energy projects, implementing green technologies to reduce the environmental impact, utilizing all solid waste for recycling, and understanding the importance of reducing waste and waste segregation and more.

"We would like to support IQPC in the ENERWASTE Summit and will be speaking about the 2nd Phase of the tariff system"," said Eng. Hani Hossni.
