- PRESS RELEASE
More than 200 of the world's engineering leaders and innovators will gather in Doha in January, 2013, for the World Congress on Engineering Education (WCEE).
The aim of the WCEE 2013 Congress is to provide a forum for researchers, engineers and academics from all over the world to present and disseminate their research results and development activities on modern engineering education. The event also supports Qatar's goal of becoming a knowledge-based society with world-class academic institutions.
The congress will provide a platform to exchange ideas about effective techniques and pedagogies to prepare the next generation of engineers for the challenges that lie ahead.
Dr. Mark H. Weichold, dean and CEO of Texas A&M at Qatar said the WCEE Congress was a key part of the university's vision to be the premier provider of engineering education in the region.
"The WCEE Congress will act as a catalyst to foster engineering and engineering technology education in the region and beyond. Our objective in organizing this congress is to bring together engineering educators from around the globe to promote and exchange ideas," explains Weichold.
Mr. Lewis Affleck, Managing Director of Maersk Oil in Qatar said: "In close partnership with Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil produces around 300,000 barrels of oil per day from Qatar's largest offshore oil field - Al Shaheen. We recognize the importance of nurturing and developing local talent and are pleased to work with Texas A&M at Qatar on the WCEE, which will help to share good-practices in engineering education, and therefore benefit educational institutions - and future engineering students - here in Qatar."
Maersk Oil Qatar currently employs around 170 Qatari personnel which is close to 25% of Maersk Oil Qatar employees. Around 50% of Maersk Oil's Qatari employees work in technical and engineering positions.
WCCE's honorary Chair is His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani. Already organizers have confirmed the participation of high profile speakers and presenters from Qatar, the region and internationally to discuss their experience in instructional excellence, engineering education research, entrepreneurism, new models for collaborative engineering education and leadership.
