Etisalat gains, aims for larger footprint in Africa

The Abu Dhabi equity market measure ADXGI closed unchanged at 3,273.50 points Wednesday. Market heavyweight Emirates Telecommunications Corp., better known as Etisalat was up 0.93% at Dhs10.85. Earlier in the day, Etisalat CEO Ahmad Abdulkarim Julfar, said at the Africa Global Business Forum 2013 in Dubai his firm is looking at expanding its operations in Africa. Etisalat runs currently telecom networks in 10 countries in Africa and is keen on winning a licence in post-war Libya. But in mid-March, Libya put the tender on hold for operating the North African country's telecom network. Twenty shares advaned in Abu Dhabi as 153m shares advanced, while 12 declined. Al Buhaira National Insurance Co. posted the largest decline, finishing down 9,62% at Dhs3.10.
