- PRESS RELEASE
Etisalat's commitment to finding solutions to reduce energy consumption and achieve cost savings is already achieving results through its recent MOU with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City managed by Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi.
Etisalat's Emirates Energy Star (EES) solution, a partnership with UAE-based Pacific Controls, is installed in the Surgical Pavilion at SKMC, and in its first month of implementation has achieved actual electricity savings that exceed the forecast target.
Mr Abdulla Ibrahim Al Ahmed, Senior Vice President, Business Solutions at Etisalat, said the EES solution is good for both SKMC and the UAE environment. "Etisalat is very aware of the need to reduce energy consumption. This not only cuts power costs for businesses but also lowers the UAE's carbon footprint. Through our partnership with Pacific Controls, under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment, the EES solution is already showing that it can make a significant difference."
The EES solution aims to reduce energy consumption in existing facilities and infrastructure across the UAE by monitoring real time performance data of existing energy consuming equipment on a continuous basis and adopting optimization measures.
The first stage of the process is a full Energy Survey to gather data about the equipment's use pattern, its energy rating and its historical energy consumption. After detailed analysis, a range of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) are identified to improve efficiency and energy consumption of the facility without compromising on the comfort level of the occupants. Etisalat contributes to the solution through the remote monitoring of controlling devices which provide communication between the field devices and a central control facility at Pacific Controls.
The monitoring determines whether each device used by the client is optimizing energy flow and using the minimal energy required to ensure the device operates to the highest standards, especially in critical businesses such as Sheikh Khalifa Medical City.
The MOU with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, the largest medical facility in Abu Dhabi, is the first signing for the EES solution, and Mr Al Ahmed said it is a very important case for the project.
"We have completed hundreds of hours of successful testing, and we are delighted to install the system into the field. In conjunction with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, we will learn a great deal about the full capabilities of the EES solution in reducing energy consumption and achieving cost savings. We want to make sure that we continue to deliver what we promise," said Mr Al Ahmed.
"Our clear aim in this joint program with Pacific Controls is reduce the UAE's carbon footprint," said Mr. Al Ahmed.
Mr. Stephen Bridgman, Manager of Facilities Department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, said that early results are very promising.
"The Surgical Pavilion at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City is a critical business, offering high-quality 24-hour patient care in sensitive areas. Etisalat's Emirates Energy Star solution ensures the constant monitoring of all the environmental control equipment to provide adequately climate controlled spaces for our patients, visitors and staff and ensure maximum operating efficiency while providing significant cost savings."
"By using the Emirates Energy Star solution, we are not only cutting our electricity bills, but we are contributing to a reduction in overall energy consumption which has a positive impact on our environment. This is a very important outcome for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City."
