Event Description
UN figures have showed the UAE and other Gulf oil producers have one of the highest traffic accident rates in the world. Road accidents killed 826 people in the UAE in 2010. Increasing road safety and reducing traffic congestion is a top priority for governments.
Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries have approved the construction of a GCC wide rail network estimated to cost in the region of US$128 billion. The network will be initially made up of 2,177km of track, which will incorporate passenger and freight services.
