Event Description
'Partnership to Invest in Future Syria,' organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, offers business leaders from Syria and around the world a platform to network and discuss opportunities for investment and identify the fundamental drivers needed for growth. The Forum will work towards helping develop a roadmap for economic growth in Syria by identifying potential partnership opportunities across all sectors of the economy.
This high-profile Forum is the second meeting of the Working Group on Economic Recovery & Development of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People. The Friends of the Syrian People previously formed two working groups at an earlier summit in Istanbul where one focused on sanctions and the other on economic recovery and development.
The UAE and Germany co-chair the Working Group on Economic Recovery & Development which convened its first plenary in Abu Dhabi in May 2012. The second meeting will now focus on the four principal work streams of the Working Group on Economic Recovery and Development including: Immediate Impact Measures; Donor Coordination; Economic Policies & Reforms and Private Sector Engagement.
The Dubai meeting of the Working Group on Economic Recovery & Development is expected to attract over 500 UAE-based and overseas entrepreneurs, policymakers and experts from various sectors. Multiple UAE companies with business interests in Syria are also expected to be represented at the Forum.
The Forum will work towards helping develop a roadmap for economic growth in Syria by identifying potential partnership opportunities across all sectors of the economy, including agriculture, industry, energy, construction, services, public administration, healthcare and telecommunications. It will also serve as a platform for dialogue on establishing a code of good governance, ensuring that Syrian products are re-introduced in international markets and strengthening the private sector.
